UNDER FIRE
  • Book and Lyrics:   Barry Harman
  • Music:  Grant Sturiale
  • Based on the film by Ron Shelton & Clay                Frohman
  •  World Premiere:  July 2019
  •  Freefall Theater -  Saint Petersburg, Florida
  •  Directed by Artistic Director Eric Davis

With its Latin-inflected score, UNDER FIRE tells the story of American journalists covering a bloody civil war in Central America, and could be ripped from today's headlines.  Faced with the opportunity to affect the outcome of a brutal conflict, reporters of integrity must decide if creating "fake news" can ever be justified?

UNDER FIRE received an initial workshop production at New York's NYMF Festival, where

it was awarded the American for Musical Theater Award.  It also received a Mainstreet Musicals Award.

THE HAUNTED HOTEL

  •   Book and Lyrics:   Barry Harman
  •   Music:  Keith Herrmann
  •   Based on the novella by Wilkie Collins
  •   First Developmental Reading,  February              2018
  •   Second Developmental Reading, August         2018
  •   Florida Studio Theater - Sarasota, Florida

Featuring a rock/pop score, HAUNTED HOTEL is a highly theatricalized version of this mystery/ghost tale (four actors play more than a dozen different roles).  While spoofing the conventions of Victorian novels, it also deals seriously with the plight of females forced to navigate their lives in a male-dominated world hostile to women.

BLACK BEAUTY

  •  Music: Kathy Sommer
  •  Based on the classic novel by Anna Sewell
  •  First Developmental Reading, NYC Sept 2017

With an alternative Brit rock score by multi-                                            platinum record winner Kathy Sommer, BLACK

BEAUTY is a new musical based on the book

regarded as the "Uncle Tom's Cabin" of animal

rights, having awakened its Victorian readers

to the terrible abuse horses often received at

the hands of their human owners.  The central

roles of the horses are designed to be played by

human dancers, in this large, dynamic musical

for the entire family.

Off Broadway

OLYMPUS ON MY MIND

  • Original Cast Recording:   JAY Records
  • Published by Samuel French

In this free-wheeling spoof, the great god Jupiter

descends to earth, intent on spending a night

with the beautiful princess Alcmene.  Taking

the guise of her warrior husband (while his son

Mercury takes the guise of a house slave),

causes a riotous case of mistaken identity, as

the Greek gods grapple with the discovery of

human emotions.   Adding to the absurdist

merriment is a young, enthusiastic chorine,

added in to the Greek chorus only because

her fake-furrier husband financed the show!

Two musicals in one, ROMANCE/ROMANCE is a

challenge for two talented principals, supported by two  talented featured players.  The first act introduces a wealthy man about town, weary of the high life in turn of the century Vienna, looking to meet someone who will love him for himself and not his money.   By chance he meets a courtesan posing as a shopgirl, also yearning for real romance.  The second act takes place on  a moonlit night, in the Hamptons.  College pals Sam and Monica explore the boundaries of their platonic friendship when each confesses that marriage to their respective spouses does not fulfill  their romantic notions.
